Angel’s Share

I’m a few years late on this, but I’ve found the perfect cocktail for me.

That’s a feat because I’m not one that can handle too much alcohol, and there’s a very limited period where I go from enjoying a drink at a bar to wanting to just go to bed.

Anyway, the Quintessence mixed at Angle’s Share. It’s an Asian-inspired speakeasy, “hidden” in a Japanese restaurant next to Sunshine Mart on 9th Street.

You won’t taste the rum at all, but that doesn’t mean it’s not very much there. The Jasmine-infused rum is mixed with elderflower liqueur, grapefruit juice and tonic water. The slight bitterness of grapefruit is just enough to mask the rum, but what really ends up standing out is the jasmine. You just have to try it.

Jay got a jalapeno-infused vodka powered with pineapple juice and topped with a boutique of cilantro.

It’s sweet, but the best part about it is the punch of spice you get at the very end from the fresh jalapeno.

Okay, so the cocktails are great. And Angel’s Share isn’t as snooty as the other “hidden” speakeasies in Manhattan.

The one pitfall is that they take a maximum of four per party, which really limits impromptu decisions to go there.
