The Shack Stack: $8.50, Concrete: About $6.00
It’s not summer in my book until you’ve stood in line for at least an hour at the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park for one of their burgers and concretes.
We can debate which of the slew of burger joints in the city offer the best burger, but this Shake Shack at this particular location is simply the epitome of summer. Take in the city outdoors while you’re waiting in line, but if you’re intent on making things quick, you can always check the Shack cam on their website to see how long the line is.
Either way, it’s always exciting when you reach the window and you’re going to want to try one of everything. But for the true experience, stick to the basics.
You can’t go wrong with the cheeseburger. The cheese is gooey but subtle in taste, which is why I also love their cheese fries. For something even more filling, Jay usually goes for the Shack burger, with a patty stuffed with mushrooms.
I don’t think any other Shake Shack location is quite the same. Madison Square Park is one of the best greeneries in Manhattan, and a juicy burger and frozen concrete makes it that much better on a hot summers day.
