Momofuku Ssam Bar

Food + Wine: $37.00 a head

Somehow New York has seemed to skip fall and go straight into chilly winter weather. On a rainy November evening, Anny and I decided to get a little Momofuku love and even in that weather, its Ssam Bar was jam-packed with a trendy post-work crowd. My seared bass was the quintessential fall plate, both in color and flavor. The skin had a delicate crunch to it that definitely added to the flaky, but soft interior. What hits you, however, will be the hint of cinnamony sweetness mixed into the bed of sticky risotto. I was caught off guard, and wasn’t sure how I felt about the seasoning, but eventually came around and felt it complemented the fish nicely — another unique construction to come out of Chang’s kitchen.
